Instant Oats Idli

Idli a dish that  belongs to the southern part of India  and is made by grinding rice, Lentils along with water. Then fermented overnight to prepare its batter .whilst they were traditionally eaten as a breakfast , during the last couple of decades it has become popular as a healthy and kids favorite snack.

Instant  Oats idli is quick way of making this power packed breakfast and does not require any soaking, grinding or fermentation process. oats are rich in minerals, vitamins , proteins and comes with tons of health benefits. There are few different kind of oats that is available in market Oat groats , steel cut oats ,scottish oats , old fashion rolled oats and quick rolled oats.

you can use any plain oats of your choice. and make sure to roast them before you make a course powder. also use vegetables of your choice. In this recipe i have not used any veggies.

Ingredients

    • 1 cup of uncooked oats
    • 2 tbsp rava or semolina
    • 1/3 cup of thick, plain yogurt
    •  water (adjust as needed)
    • oil
    •  mustard seeds
    • 1 tbsp. Urad daal
    •  fresh coriander leaves, chopped
    • 1/2 tsp of plain baking soda (eno salt)
    • Salt to taste

Instruction

    1. Roast the oats in a dry skillet until the colour begins to change and the ends of the oat flakes begin to curl.
    2. Cool and grind to a fine powder and keep it aside.
    3. Heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds and Urad dal. After dal turns brown ,add the rava and roast for few minutes.
    4. Next Add the powdered oats, some salt, and chopped coriander leaves to this. Mix well and turn off the heat.
    5. Transfer this mixture to a bowl and cool. Then add the yogurt and mix well. The batter should be fairly thick. Add water if needed.
    6. Now add baking powder.Immediately pour into greased idli moulds and steam for 10-12 minutes.
    7. Serve oats idli warm with accompaniments and chutneys of choice.
